Snoopi.io Celebrating 10yrs in 2025

First Off, I want to thank the long-term clients that have been riding with this project since 2015.

Snoopi.io started as a side project back in 2015—just a way for me to practice and learn how to build REST API services. At the time, I was using the free MaxMind database like everyone else, but I quickly became curious. I wanted to know how to build my own database of IP addresses, pulling data from various public resources and even working directly with ISP providers.

Building the infrastructure was a challenge. I had to piece together logs, scrape datasets, and rely on open BGP feeds. I also began to spot patterns from server logs and user behavior, and gradually, I built out a lightweight, efficient geolocation engine that didn’t depend on bloated, overpriced services.

More Than Just Geo IP Location

From the beginning, I knew I wanted Snoopi.io to be more than just another IP location tool. Most of the competition at the time was simply repackaging the MaxMind Free DB. That didn’t interest me.

So, I started adding features that felt more useful and customizable—things like:

  • Zip Code Radius searches – helping users filter leads or restrict service areas based on proximity.
  • Zip Code Distance calculations – for comparing logistics zones or creating location-based pricing.
  • Fraud Prevention tools – using IP analysis to flag suspicious logins, VPNs, bots, or proxy users.

As the platform evolved over the past 10 years, something interesting happened. While we had about 2,000 developers using Snoopi.io at one point, I began to notice a shift. Digital marketing managers started using it more frequently—for things like building dynamic landing pages and setting up geo-targeted campaigns. At the same time, developer usage began to taper off.

That was a turning point. I realized I wasn’t just building a backend tool—I was building a marketing asset.

The 2025 Revamp

So in 2025, I decided it was time for a full revamp—new website, new dashboard, and a tighter focus on the audience that was actually using the product: digital marketers and small business owners.

This meant making things more visual, more intuitive, and more action-oriented. The goal is to help non-technical users personalize their landing pages and websites in real time—without needing to write any code.

And while I’m at it, I’m doubling down on fraud prevention. I’m expanding Snoopi.io to include affordable services like:

  • IP Monitoring – tracking repeat visits, spammy IPs, and user reputation.
  • Bot Detection – identifying fake traffic that can skew analytics or inflate ad spend.
  • VPN and Proxy Detection – detecting users hiding their true location.

Think of it like what MaxMind is doing—just simpler, more transparent, and at a much more accessible price point.

I also introduced a new dashboard that makes it easier to set up API Key for different landing pages or projects, I added a wordpress plugin that will allow us to easily use it for your projects and integrate Geo Tagging into your website.

Why This Matters in a Post-GA4 World

I also provide digital marketing services for clients, and I’ve seen firsthand how unreliable GA4 has become, especially with the shift in privacy regulations and user tracking preferences.

GA4 often fails to track traffic accurately because:

  • Most users disable cookies.
  • iPhones (starting with iOS 14) block third-party cookies by default.
  • Privacy-first browsers like Brave and Firefox block trackers by design.
  • Ad blockers and browser extensions further disrupt GA4’s ability to log visits.

The reality? IP tracking is now 3x more effective than relying on cookies. It’s one of the few consistent signals we still have.

It gives marketers a clearer picture of:

  • Where their traffic is coming from
  • Whether users are domestic or international
  • Which campaigns are actually converting by region

For anyone working in digital marketing, this kind of visibility is essential, not just for analytics, but for conversion optimization, budget allocation, and fraud detection too.

Plus, IP-level analytics respect privacy better than cookies. You’re not tracking user behavior across websites, you’re just optimizing based on location and network fingerprinting.

Snoopi.io Will Always Stay Indie-Friendly

This is still a solo-preneur project, and I plan to keep growing it over the next 10 years. But some things won’t change:

  • There will always be a free version for small business owners and startups.
  • I have no interest in hiking up the prices like some of the bigger players, looking at you, MaxMind and IPStack.
  • I answer every support email personally. I build the tools, I run the servers, and I care about every user.

That’s the advantage of working with indie software, you get someone who actually listens and builds around your needs.

Future Development: What’s Coming to Snoopi.io

As Snoopi.io continues to grow into its second decade, I’m actively working on new tools and features based on the feedback I’ve received from marketers, developers, and business owners. These aren’t just “nice-to-haves”—they’re practical upgrades designed to solve real problems in day-to-day operations.

Some of the upcoming developments I’m planning include:

  • Webhook-Based Lead Filtering
Automatically block or allow leads from specific countries, IP ranges, or ISPs before they reach your CRM—ideal for lead quality control.
  • Real-Time Threat Detection API
Use machine learning to detect patterns of suspicious behavior in real time, helping protect forms, logins, and sensitive pages.
  • Geolocation A/B Testing
Show different versions of your landing pages based on user location, so you can optimize messaging and design per region.
  • WordPress Plugin for Geo Personalization
A simple plugin that makes it easy for non-technical users to customize content based on visitor IP—no code required.
  • IP Reputation Scoring
Score IP addresses in real time to identify high-risk traffic—useful for payment processing, login security, and comment spam detection.

These features are all part of the long-term vision for Snoopi.io: to build a smarter, privacy-conscious IP tracking platform that gives small businesses the same tools the big players have—but without the complexity or bloated price tags.

If any of these features would be useful for your workflow, drop me an email. Your ideas help shape what I build next.

If you’ve found value in the platform, I’d love your support. And if there’s a feature you’d like to see, feel free to reach out—your input helps guide where Snoopi.io goes next.

Thanks for riding along.
